OBOE Society Foundation
The
Hungarian Oboe Society Foundation is a national non-profit organization
uniting oboists from all over the country - teachers, artists, students
as devoted musicians fond of the instrument - into a single large organization.
Oboists in Hungary had never had such a Foundation before, one with
public support, operating within legal frames, so it has naturally roused
nationwide attention.
The
founder and president of the advisory board is Zoltán Munia,
an oboe teacher, advisor on public education at the Ministry of Education,
who created this professional organization in 2003 responding to the
encouragement and enthusiastic urging by numerous colleagues.
Honorary president of the Foundation is Peter Pongrácz,
an oboist, professor at the Franz Liszt Music Academy, where he had
also served as vice president for decades.
Goals of the Foundation furthering public interest are as follows:
- popularization and spreading knowledge of the oboe and of woodwind
instruments in a wider sense, as well as of music;
- organisation, sponsoring and management of solo, chamber, and symphonic
concerts, whit charitable, or teaching aims, teacher and student concerts,
meetings, festivals, competitions, teaching and master courses;
- creation and offering of awards;
- creation and offering of a professional award in recognition of outstanding
(artistic, orchestral, teaching, or instrumental) accomplishments;
- publishing professional, methodological and printed music works, and
sponsoring such publications;
- sponsoring maintenance, renovation and repair of instruments, and
sponsoring the purchase of accessories to those instruments;
- sponsoring the renewal of the aging pool of instruments (even through
purchasing instruments);
- improving the pool of instruments of Hungarian orchestras and schools
whitin and outside our borders.
The
above goals of the Foundation are considered exemplary and foremost
goals to be accomplished by all compatriots playing at any level, or
simply loving the oboe. László Hadady, the famous oboist, professor
at the Paris Conservatory, also pledged his support to these efforts.
The 11 member national advisory board has already taken actions bringing
to life a number of functions benefiting the public in 2003, during
the first half year of the Foundation's existence:
This home page set stage for a national communication allowing more
precise and faster information flow.
The organization of national competitions for art schools from primary
to graduate level allowed the offering of special awards.
The
Foundation sponsored new oboe publications resulting in the avaliability
of the following publications for the profession at a very favorable
price:
- Zoltán Munia: Oboaiskola és Zongorakísérete - Oboe school
with piano accompaniment (for first and second year students at music
schools)
- Sándor Kerényi: 22 etűd - 22 etudes (for advanced students
at music schools)
- Sándor Kerényi: Hangszerismeret - About the instrument (for
students and teachers at the Academy, or anyone interested in the instrument).
The
above three music editions via their wonderful methodological structure
will provide a useful tool for oboe teachers all over the world!
The
advisory board bestowed a professional award on József Kányási, oboist
and professor of music at the Debrecen Music Academy for 35 years.
The
Society offers oboe reeds and reed material for students of oboe through
a grant system starting January 1, 2004.
All
this collaboration was made possible through pursuing a national common
goal, which you can also help with your donations.
